Types of Cycling
The RBCC does not only cater exclusively for those
wishing to do criterium racing. The club conducts social events, time
trials, hill climbs, fun events, road racing events. Check out our
Club Championship program for
2004. The club has an excellent
Junior Development Program and has produced many top junior riders. Triathletes, as well as other club members, will benefit from regular training rides on Tuesday,
Wednesday,
Thursday & Friday mornings leaving from Centennial Park at 6am. (For full
details of training rides click here) We also have a longer
training ride on Sundays that leaves the Randwick Gates or Centennial Park (at
the roundabout) at 6.30am and goes down to
Waterfall and back. Those who don't feel up to such a ride can turn at Sutherland
and wait for the bunch on the return trip. For those of you who have
not had much experience riding in a bunch before, why not read this
excellent article written by Chris White explaining the do's and don'ts and
and the why's and why not's of bunch rides. Keep abreast of forthcoming
planned events by monitoring the coming events
page.
In addition to our criterium racing and our training
rides, the club also conducts its club road racing championships on a 50
kilometre road circuit involving some climbing for those budding Armstrongs. We also conduct regular Sunday events in association with
our Club Championship program including individual time trials of varying
distances and at various venues, hill climbs and scratch races. For full
details click here. Now
and then we will also organise a novelty & BBQ day at Heffron Park.
These days, for the fitter riders start
at 6.30am with a gentle warm up ride to Waterfall and back. For the
Juniors and those not up to the warm up ride, the day commences at 10am at Heffron Park.
These BBQ days include novelty and fun events
for both the Juniors and Seniors and a great social atmosphere for
everyone. The day culminates in a relaxing afternoon of pleasant
conversation between friends and family and enjoyment of the fantastic cuisine.
We also have a great rapport with our sister club
Dulwich Hill. If Track racing is your forte then training at the Tempe velodrome is available every Monday and Wednesday
nights starting at 6pm. We
have a strong little group of regulars who are trained by ex Olympic Gold and
Silver medallist, Mr Lionel Cox and his son Brad.
Friday Night racing is also conducted at the Dunc Gray Olympic Velodrome and
Lidcome Auburn club conducts racing for both seniors and juniors at Lidcombe
Oval on Friday Evenings starting at 7.30pm. Bankstown club conducts racing
on Wednesday evenings at Dunc Gray. So if it's track racing/training your
interested in we can only guarantee about 4 nights a week.

OPEN MEETINGS.
There are plenty of Open meetings available throughout the year whether
they are Road, Criterium, Track or Triathlon. The RBCC encourages its members to support the Opens and several prizes and awards are available for those riders who do well
at the Open meetings. A booklet,
produced by the NSW Cycling Federation, is
available from the Club Secretary, Helen Vella, detailing all the Open events
for the coming season. All entries are to be submitted to the NSW Cycling
Federation.
