Approximately 40 RBCC riders met
at Centennial Park and made their way south to the
start of the Jonhhy Warren Jamberoo Classic.
Along the way we picked up more riders as well as a
couple of Sydney riders who were most welcome and
the East Subs bunch arrived about 7.20am in good
time to register. By the time we
assembled at Waratah Park, together with the RBCC
riders who met there at the start, I would estimated
we were about 60 in numbers.
Michael Tomalaris of SBS briefed
the riders and we were off shortly after 7.30am on
the 100km ride. Approximately 170 riders
registered but with some not knowing or forgetting
to register, there may have been 200 riders or more.
It certainly looked that way at the start as we
headed to Waterfall for the descent into the
National Park. This year the ride was
controlled by a front lead car and rear support
vehicle both supplied by our sponsor FRF/Excelpro.
The girls (Joanne Buckton and driver Anna Fortuna)
did a fantastic job in the lead car and controlled
the bunch and navigated the route (which was much
more complicated than previous years - however more
scenic and less traffic), like they had driven it
hundreds of times before. Quite frankly I
would have got lost for sure. The girls pulled
us up at the designated stops at the completion of
each stage where everyone recharged their batteries
with some quick eats and drinks. |

Well, everyone had a great day and I am informed that we raised over $5000 for the Sydney
Cancer Centre Foundation. SBS will run a story on the Johnny
Warren Jamberoo Classic on Cycling Central hosted by Tomo next
Sunday 14 Jan at 5.30pm. Thanks to Grant Bennet for above
photos. If anyone else has any other photos of the event, send
them across and I will put them up. ---- John Buckton
President Randwick Botany Cycling Club.
