BLANEY TO BATHURST Sun 13 April 2008

A great weekend with quite a few RBCC riders, including our STEAM brothers and sisters competing.  For those of you who don't know Steam members are now affiliated with the Randwick Botany Cycling Club. Had a great weekend with Marko Turner, Sam Gilbert, Leo Neil-Dwyer, David Bomba, Tony Caruana, Ron Sproule, Rick Jordan, Matt Kellaher, Jules Galli, Matthew Yaksley & Nick Wood.  Not to forget our newest RBCC members, Danielle Vanolini and Anna Murray of STEAM.  Sorry guys and girls but don't know the names of the other Steam riders who competed.  Thanks to Joanne for taking the photos.

Special congratulations to Ron Sproule who won the Age 65+, 70km short course event and Tony Caruana who came third in the Age 65+, 110km full course event.

Tony Caruana and I prepare to blast off in the Masters 5 & over wave.  (over 100 riders in this bunch) Tony and I on the start line with our old mate Grant Chellew from Sydney club.

Now without further waffle, lets go to the business end of the race !!
Jules Galli with a great sub 3 hour time for the 110 kilometres.  2hrs 59: Nick Wood in another sub 3hr time of 2 hrs 59:02

Marko Turner Leo Neil-Dwyer

Photos top left, top right and immediate right.

Sam, Marko and Leo came 8th 9th & 10th respectively in their age group.  Their times, Sam 3:05:44,  Marko 3:06:49 and Leo who must have cracked on some of the monster climbs towards the end of the event,  3:19:26

Sam Gilbert

The pain of that final climb shows on Rick Jordan's face (around Forrest Elbow and up the esses and the Big Dipper of Mt Panarama !!) Whilst everyone else was finishing individually, I happened to hit the top of the climb with another rider and I don't know where the strength came from.  Perhaps a shot of adrenaline shot into the legs as I saw the opportunity after 110 kilometres to move up one more place.

Got to get my transponder to that finish mat first !! Yes !!   moved up to 8th.  My first race over the 100 kilometre mark and I was pretty happy after the monster climbs to have finished it in 3:10:30.
