REPORT

Gale force conditions.  In fact, by all accounts and those of some  "Old-timers", it was the strongest wind ever raced in, in their collective memories of Heffron Park. Certainly in my own recollection, I can't remember the wind and associated gusts ever as strong as those I experienced yesterday.

It was hardly unexpected in the conditions when the bunches split apart and riders went out the back of the bunches in dribs and drabs till only small bunches in the respective grades remained.  The real strong men shone through in the conditions.  Dave Early who rode away from A grade and Zollie Horvarth who rode away from B grade.

Dave Early escapes off the front of A Grade in the early stages of the race. Dave excelled in the gale force conditions and stayed away for the entire race till he crossed the finish line for victory.

JERSEY SPONSORS

Dave Early crosses the line for victory in A grade with no other rider in sight

Ditto in B grade with Zoltan "Zollie" Horvarth crossing the finish line to take victory in B grade.  Zollie would like to dedicate his win to his girlfriend back in Hungary.

Early in the race Dave Jackson displays a titanic effort in bridging a huge gap to get across to the 3 escapees.  The moment he tacked on the back, Zollie used the moment to attack which relegated Dave to spectator and also got rid of the other riders in the break

Where was Big Bazza you might ask?  Well Bazza went "OTA" in one lap.  Bazza later explained that he is not aerodynamically shaped for the conditions.

C grade sprint and Lewis Daniels takes victory with a long gap back to the C grade peleton

Talking about the C grade peleton and very close sprint for second place with Marcus Carmont just taking it from Keiran Latty of Dulwich Hill.

Patrick Sharpe takes out the D grade event.

The Juniors with Rebecca Fortuna showing off her new RBCC kit.

Don't forget the Big one Next Saturday.  The Bike Bug 500 is on next Saturday 20 December.

The Bike Bug 500 Sat 20 Dec 2008

In association with Club Sponsor Bike Bug, this years's Christmas Pudding Races will once again be held in conjunction with the Bikebug 500.  Why 500?  Because there is $500 first prize plus a Christmas Pudding  for the winner of the A grade feature race.  Total prize money is $1000.  Special VIP guest star, SANTA, will be making an appearance for the kids also.
