REPORT

Another cold October day and what a surprise, it was blowing a gale at Heffron Park.  Very trying conditions that lent themselves to break aways, as the lead riders rode in the gutter and forced following riders to get their share of the wind.

A full turn up the 500 metre long start finish straight was excruciating and there were lots of riders screaming for others to "do a turn"

It made it pretty easy for us as Commissaires with very little bunch sprints happening and the majority of victories coming from small breaks.  Such was the case in the first race of the day, the women's handicap.  The scratch markers caught the limit riders fairly easily in the windy conditions and then 2 riders, Amanda Spratt and Rochelle Gilmore rode off the front whilst other riders chased them in ones and twos.

Amanda Spratt and Rochelle Gilmore got away and worked well together to stay stay ahead of the chasers.  In the end though, Rochell was too strong in the sprint and Amanda had to settle for second place.   A huge ride by Amber Jenkins of the Sydney club who in lone third position never gave up as she tried to narrow the gap to the escapees.  Congratulations also to Chey Howard who also rode solo for most of the race and took out the first U19 Women award.

I don't think we are ever going to hear the end of this one.  Dave "Knuckles" Crampton got away with David Sitsky and did a fabulous job together to hold off Jock Murray who had worked through the field from the scratch mark and was trying to reel in the 2 escapees.  Jock must have chase them for about 4 laps but was unable to make much of a dent in the gap in the end had to settle for third place. In the end Dave Sitsky was just too strong for "Knuckles" and he had to settle for second place with Jock Murray third.

Great ride by Luke Davison to win B grade.  Luke is becoming a much more well rounded rider demonstrating this with some big turns on the front and chasing down a few breaks.  He showed today that he is not just a sprinter and is developing a big engine under the bonnet.  A well deserved victory and congratulations Luke.

Power houses Liam Kelly & John Kenny stretched out the AB Masters field with some huge turns.  They finally went off the front and John must have had a pretty godd idea that second place was on the cards with that huge sprint of Liam Kelly.

So it was.  Liam first.  John cruises in for second and congratulations to RBCC's Kevin Black who had a great sprint to take out third place.

Fabulous ride by Matt Lucas and Sutherland's Jim Moore.  As the photo left shows, the rest of the field were no where to be seen when the boys got the bell for the final lap. Jim must have known all about Matty's sprint because he put a huge effort in the final half lap trying to gap Matt and did actually manage to get a little over a bike length on Matty as we saw them dissapear around the netball courts.  However when they reappeared  Matty was right on Jim's wheel.
