Let me try to anticipate your next question: "I didn't know
Rocky raced mountain bikes"
No Rocky is quite experienced he rode a mountain bike once
before, coincidentally in a race !
On that occasion he lasted about 250 metres before falling off
and hurting himself but he learnt a lot from that fall and the
whole mountain bike experience and feels that he will easily
fast track up to the next level, a 24 hour race.
We haven't heard any results yet but as soon as we do we will
tell you the ward, room number and visiting hours.
Stay tuned.
Ok enough about the Rock star, back to the race at hand and a
great ride by Rollo who together with Luis Trueba, caught the
combined A, B combined peleton and then together with third
member Luke Davison, hit off the front in pursuit of the C
graders.
Unfortunately,
just as the three had caught and were passing the C grade bunch on the
pimple, Luke had a mechanical and Luis took a spill into the grass and
then there was only one. Earlier however 2 junior riders had
escaped off the front of C grade and so Rollo still had some work to do.
He caught the boys Aaron Donnelly and Jack Reid about 3 to go and they
swapped off turns for another lap before the pace got a little too hot
for Jack and he dropped off the back. Aaron hung on and was
on Rollo's wheel right up the finish straight for a fine second place.
Incidentally Aaron welcome to B grade.
LATE BREAKING NEWS
Heard
back from Rocky and before he lapsed back into unconsciousness,
he told me, as he spat the dirt out lodged between his teeth,
that he thought that he had experienced all that he needed to
experience in mountain bike racing and is now officially
retired. I'm sure a collective sigh of relief will
echo across the State, if not only from his team mates but also
from his wife and family and medical staff generally. So
next week we will have our club photographer back albeit a
little battered and bruised but walking proudly upright (or as
close as you can get to upright with a bad back and a limp).
