REPORT

In A Grade, Cheeky Monky sponsored Randwick Botany rider, Pete ‘The Machine’ McDonald (left),

rode his Cheeky Monkey Multisport Randwick - red Cannondale with deep rim black Mavic Cosmic wheels, rode solo for most of the 36km A-Grade race.

"The Machine" was cheered home by a massive crowd, easily winning in a time of 55min 6min at an average speed of nearly 40kmh.

One could have made and half finished a cup of coffee before the next A graders came home.  They did however provid the crowd with a fabulous sprint for second place.

Left,   The King of Heffron Park – Anthony Spurgeon from Team Caravello taking Randwick Botany's Jersy Sowa by the narrowest of margins right on the line.

B Grade went out hard from the start.  Look at the pain on the faces of the riders in the early stages of the race.

A Break-away group form and put a good distance on what was left of the chasing peleton (about half having gone "out the back")

Above, Randwick Botany's Karl Bellamy leads the break around to the finish straight on the bell lap.  Close on his wheel was Kev Black, Clive Hammerson, Andrew Riordan and eventual winner, Frank Fortuna.

Arthur Driver, eventual 2nd place getter in C grade, drives the bunch over the pimple and around to the netball courts.

After winning D-Grade last week, Joshua Marden (pictured towards the back in the white top and red knicks) was promoted to C-Grade this week and won that race too.  Marden put the hammer down at the start of the straight and the other strong C-Graders couldn’t match Marden’s explosive acceleration. Arthur Driver (Penrith Panthers) was second followed by Andrew Hall and Tony Caruana.

Andrew Swan had another strong ride in D-Grade, winning in a time of 35min 40sec.

Second place went to Grant Chellew (Sydney) - (pictured third wheel above) followed by Anthony Morehouse, Paul Newbold and Chris Reynolds.

E Grade action with Grant Roe leading eventual E grade winner, Alberto Bracco over the pimple.

Young Matthew Fortuna scored another place in the 14km E-Grade.  Other place-getters included RBCC's  Joe Gatt with a fine second placing to race winner, Alberto Bracco from the Waratah Vets club.

Nine junior riders competed in four events at Heffron Park on Saturday 28 February 2004.  Thirteen-year-old Tom Patton was fastest in the 2km Time Trial clocking a time of 3min 23sec.  Taylor Weetman won the 2km Handicap race and Sam Buckland won the 4km scratch race.

John Buckton rolls out the Junior's bikes to ensure they are complying with their age/gearing restrictions.

The kids look up to photographer Tony Horneman.  Geez you're tall Tony !!
