REPORT
Stuart Campbell, from Eastern Suburbs Cycling Club, powered away to win
the Randwick Botany Cycling Club `A' Grade 36km criterium race at Heffron
Park on Saturday 31 March 2001. Stuart's winning time was 55 minutes
22 seconds.
Another Easts rider, Matthew Warner-Smith came second, followed by Ross
Mackey, one of Randwick Botany's best A graders. Eleven riders
competed in the event.
Ken Johnston, from the Hunter Valley Club, was first in B Grade after
32km, followed by Glen Ingram (Sutherland) and Sergio Roman (RBCC).
Three Randwick Botany riders broke away from a pack of 20 riders in the
closing laps of the 30km C Grade event. Dean Preddy was first across
the line, followed by Daniel Milliken and Ben Thompson. The winning
time was 46 minutes 56 seconds and the average speed was 36.4km/h.
Paul Dimitriou from Bankstown Sports Club, led for most of the D Grade
20km race only to be passed by Jeremy O'Brien (RBCC), Lindsay Monks (Dulwich
Hill) and Herve Boutin (Turramurra) to claim first, second and third place
respectively.
In one of her first races since having her first child, Simone Stanwell
rode strongly in the E Grade 16km race. Simone claimed third place
behind Gai Cridland in first place and Richard Jenkins in second position.
The winning time was 32 minutes 20 seconds.
The Junior 2km Handicap was won by James Warne, aged 9, in a time of 5
minutes 16 seconds. James has shown rapid improvement recently and
is a promising young rider. Keegan Aitchison was second followed by
Adriano Maradini in third place. The fastest time was Chris Jenkins
in a time of 3 minutes 20 seconds.
The Under 17, 2km Time Trial result was Robert Cater, first in a time of 3
minutes 16 seconds. Second was Chris Jenkins and third was Keegan
Aitchison.
The Under 13, 2km Time Trial was won by Luke Davison in a time of 4
minutes 20 seconds. Max Gueniev was second and Daniel Nicpon third.
The Under 9, 2km Time Trial result was Adriano Maradini, first in a time
of 4 minutes 55 seconds followed by James Warne and Antoine Rosse.
The next club race will be conducted at Heffron Park on Saturday 7 April
2001. Juniors start at 1pm and Seniors 2.30pm. Spectators and
new riders are always welcome.
