St George Junior Open, Oatley Park on Sunday 30th June 2002

As Chris Jenkins was out with the flu, our Under 19 State Hill Climb Champion, Shaun Higgerson was left to fly the flag in the U/19 Mens scratch race. The race was super fast with a breakaway in the middle stages of the race by Chris Sutton and 2 Victorians. Shaun was the strongest rider out of the bunch and was chasing hard. He lead them around pulling everyone up the hill for the rest of the race and finally on the last lap he bridged the gap and closed in on the leaders.

Unfortunately Chris Suttons team mates dropped back to the main bunch now only 5 metres back and would not work which effectively stopped Shaun from bridging across to Sutton and allowing Sutton to get away and finish on his own. Shaun finished with the bunch but had nothing left for the sprint.
Michael Murdoch had a good race in the U/17 mens finishing 5th overall.

NSW U/17 Women's State Hill Climb Champion, Britney Orr.

Our Under 17 Women's State Hill Climb Champion Brittany Orr &  team mate Robyn Stanning rode strongly in the Womens U17 race.   In a totally new equation, in that Oatley Park has a hill, yesterday's winner was dropped on the first lap never to be seen again.

Newington Inn Randwick Botany Elite Team member, Robyn Stanning.

Robyn started in group 2 and Brit in group 3. After chasing for half the race Brit and Amanda Sprat caught the leading bunch. At the end of the race Amanda just out sprinted Brit to win with Robyn managing to hang onto the leading girls and finish 4th overall
In the U/13 boys Tamas got away from the group and rode hard to win the race and beat yesterdays place getters by heaps.

Pita Vea had a crash at the flower pot managed to get back and finish the race.

Two new U/15 women riders for RBCC had their first race today showing much promise for future opens.

Todays racing was based around a handicap after a 1 lap TT. Except for the U/19 Mens that was a scratch race. Most of the stronger RBCC riders all started off scratch and raced well.
