Report on the 2001 SYDNEY JUNIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP held at Waratah Park, Sutherland on Sunday 17 June 2001

REPORT

Several Randwick Botany junior riders represented the club in the 2001 Sydney Junior Open Championship held at Waratah Park, Sutherland on Sunday 17 June 2001.  In the Under 15 event, Tyler McLaughlin broke away with 5 laps to go and RBCC junior Luke Cridland chased many times but could not get him back.  In the bunch sprint for minor placings, Luke Cridland claimed second place.  Andiano Maradini put in a big effort but was hampered by poor gearing during the race.  Jonathan Cridland finished 6th out of 18 riders in the Under 13 race.

Luke Davidson found the going tough but continued to race the best he could on the day.  Keegan Aitchison and Thom Richards started in the Under 15 race, but were pulled off the course when they were lapped. Both riders tried their best.  Robert Cater and Chris Jenkins rode outstanding races up against some stiff competition.

Both riders were at the front trying to breakaway only to be caught by the main bunch of 20 riders.  Robert and Chris finished with the bunch in the mass sprint to the line.

It is excellent to see such a strong Randwick Botany Junior committment to an open meeting.  The whole club is proud of you boys.  Keep up the excellent work.
