HILL CLIMB 8 AUGUST

MWCC has kindly invited us to their hill climb to be held on 8th August.

The format of the race will be a ITT from Illawong Bay Car Park to the “Top box” 5.5km. The race will form part of the RBCC point score for RBCC members. Sign on from 7.30 1st rider off at 8am.  There will be a $5 entry fee but MWCC will be giving prizemoney for the event.

Here is a Google Earth view of the course

Thanks to Jonathon Ryan who rode the course and provided this profile:

Some info/Tips provided by Jon:

There is limited parking around the start / finish points. There is a large parking area at the Akuna Bay Marina, a ~2km ride from the starting point at Illawong Bay with only a small rise in between. The Marina also has a café / restaurant and ‘corner store’ so its a good point to end a ride.

To minimise vehicle traffic on the course, drivers planning on parking down to Akuna Bay / Illawong Bay should be advised to enter via the other end of the park loop ie the West Head Road entrance to the Park. They also need to know that the Park entrance fee is $11, if a NP&WS officer is on duty at the park entrance.

I highly recommend club members taking the opportunity of riding out to West Head after the Hill Climbing Championship – its a great ride which a lot of our Waterfall addicts may not have experienced and it will make the trip all the more worthwhile (after all, the hill climb will be over in 10 – 20 minutes).

Next Sunday is also the City To Surf - I assume the Eastern Distributor will take you under the route but it might be worth planning your trip in terms of both route and time taking the City to Surf into account.
