A FABULOUS NIGHT

A Big thrill for everyone when RBCC member Graeme "Brownie" Brown turned up on the evening and via our MC gave us some insights into the professional racing scene.  We were very appreciative of Brownie's attendance given that he had to race the following day in Woollongong.  Congratulations Brownie on your second place in that race by the way.
For report and more photos of the night, click here.

Please note:  We are in the process of making up the Marshal Roster for the rest of the year.  If you can assist please contact our Marshal Co-ordinator, Glen Thornton.    Track set-up starts at 1.30pm.  Can you please ensure that you attend at that time to assist with track set-up.

Track cleaning and preparation is a part of your afternoon marshalling.  As I have consistently reminded members,  this is OUR club with the emphasis on "OUR"  It is not about a select few doing all the work to facilitate racing.  It is about us all pitching in to make it work.  Please advise our Marshal Co-ordinator EARLY in the week prior to Saturday, that you will be performing your rostered duty.

You will only be called upon for assistance hopefully only 1 day per year to facilitate racing.  Don't let your club and your mates down.  Don't forget you don't have to do it personally.  You can nominate, a friend, relative or swap with a mate.  There are plenty of options.  All you have to do is accept responsibility for that date and ensure that someone will assist to facilitate the running of the races.

CONGRATULATIONS WORLD CHAMPION DAVE STEVENS

On Friday 11th March at the NSW State Pursuit Championships,  Dave Stevens, wearing the rainbow jersey as existing world Masters champion in that event, recorded a 3:27.4 and smashed the existing world record which was owned by Noriyuki Iijima of Japan ( 3.27.826 )

Then on Saturday 26 March Dave had another go at the Qualifying for the Masters Nationals, this time the day was pretty slow, so a super fast time looked unlikely. In the end however, Dave managed a 3:26.0 which was a further 1.4seconds faster than his previous record and 1.8 faster than Noriyuki.

Despite the fact the on Friday the 11th Japan was hit by a devastating earthquake and tsunami, Noriyuki phoned though his best wishes prior to the event and also his congratulations afterwards. Now that's sportsmanship.  Congratulations Dave.

The Randwick Botany Cycling Club is one of the oldest clubs in Australia having been affiliated with the then, Cycling Union, in 1903.  In 2003 we celebrated our Centenary year with our Centenary Race day and Mega Dinner party.  A strong social theme exists between our considerable members.  Year 2003 saw our membership swell beyond 150 members.  We have a new major sponsor for 2010, being Brennan IT.

Our membership has exceeded expectations and has approaches 300 members as of late 2010.   We are very lucky in that we are one of only a few clubs with our own clubhouse.  The clubhouse consists of an administration area, kiosk, showers, toilets and shower facilities.  The clubhouse assists in facilitating the great social atmosphere of the club and the great rapport and comradeship between the club members.  It is great to sit down after racing amongst friends, enjoying a tea or coffee and a sandwich perhaps, and regaling friends with the highlights of the race.  Sometimes such stories seem more exciting than the Tour De France (especially from the story teller's perspective).

The kiosk is well stocked with everything from tea and coffee to soft drinks, sports drinks & ice creams and a range of food from basic confectionary to fresh sandwiches.  Every now and then we even put on a barbeque.

The club caters for all types of rider who wishes to pursue the sport of cycling in either a recreational or competive atmosphere.  We cater for the social rider through to the serious racer.  We conduct training rides, fun events, individual & team time trial events, hill climbs, criterium and road racing events (click here for more details).  Racing is conducted on the Heffron Park criterium circuit every Saturday throughout the year in a safe and friendly environment.  To ensure your safety we have marshals situated around the course who are in contact via two way radio.  Accredited First Aid personnel are on hand every week also.

2010 sees us with a very young but blossoming Junior membership, The club has produced, International professional riders, World and Olympic champions.  We have 2 current UCI World Masters track champions in the club.

We recommend that you join a club close to your home or work so that it is not too greater distance from the start of a training ride and also not far to go home after a long ride.  Whilst we have plenty of members outside these areas, we recommend that you choose the Randwick Botany Cycling Club if you live and cycle in the Sydney Metropolitan area.  If you are looking for a cycling club in Sydney to facilitate your cycling in Sydney and you live in any of the following suburbs then we recommend that you strongly consider becoming a member of the Randwick Botany Cycling Club.
